Virginia Has Updated Immunization Requirements

New immunization requirements for Virginia's public school students went into effect on July 1, 2021.  Colonial Heights Public Schools is reminding parents and guardians of the following new updates:

  • Two doses of properly spaced human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) for all children. The first dose is required before the child enters the seventh grade.
  • Two or three properly spaced doses of rotavirus vaccine, depending on the manufacturer, for children up to eight months of age.
  • Two properly spaced doses of hepatitis A vaccine. The first dose must be administered at age 12 months or older. The new hepatitis A vaccine requirement is an addition to the existing kindergarten immunization requirements.
  • Two properly spaced doses of meningococcal conjugate vaccine. The first is required prior to entry to the seventh grade. The second dose is required prior to entry to the twelfth grade.

Where to Take Records

School nurses asked that you drop off a copy of your child's updated immunization records to his or her home school.  Offices are open from 7:15-4:30 Monday - Thursday until August 12th.  Beginning August 16th, school offices are open from 7:30-3:30 Monday - Friday. Beginning September 7th, school offices go back to their school-year operation hours.

A Message from the Middle School

Rising seventh graders will not recieve their schedules at Open House until parents/guardians provide a copy of their child's immunization records showing the newly required vaccines: human papillomavirus and meningococcal conjugate vaccines.

All questions should be directed to the child's home school.

Virginia public schools currently do not require a COVID-19 vaccination.
