Will school hours return to the “normal” schedule?

Yes, schools will operate on a normal schedule for the 2021-2022 school year. 

 

Will students change classes and move throughout the building?

Class changes will be reinstated and allowed based on current mitigation strategies for each school community.

 

Is virtual instruction an option for students? 

Only students who are administratively placed or have documented medical needs will qualify for virtual services for the 2021-2022 school year. 

 

Virtual applications are due by May 15, 2021.  Medical Certification of Need form must be signed and uploaded by July 1, 2021.

Applications and forms may be accessed in Parent Portal.

 

Will elementary students participate in in-person resource classes? 

Yes, music, art, health & physical education, library, and exploratory classes will all be offered in-person. 

 

Will virtual students be taught by CHPS teachers?

K-5 virtual students - Virtual Virginia 

6-12 virtual students - Limited number of CHPS teachers and licensed Virtual Virginia teachers

 

Will students and staff be required to wear masks?

Yes, we will continue to require mitigation measures based on the most recent CDC, VDH, and VDOE guidance. 

 

Will students eat in the cafeteria?

Breakfast will continue to be a “grab-and-go” model as students enter the building.

Students will eat in the cafeteria on a rotating basis based on the most current physical distancing guidelines. Schools will set up schedules for each grade level.

 

Will the gyms be used for P.E. instruction and activities?

Yes, students will be provided opportunities to exercise in the gym based on the most current physical distancing guidelines. Each school will develop a gym schedule based on student population and class schedules.

 

Will volunteers and visitors be allowed in the schools?

No, not at this time. Access to the campus may be restricted for visitors and volunteers based on the most current community transmission data. This will be reevaluated based on the most current CDC, VDH, and VDOE guidance. 

 

Should we expect schedule changes throughout the school year?

Yes, adjustments to school schedules, protocols, and procedures will be made throughout the school year based on successful mitigation strategies and low COVID-19 transmission.
