At the School Board meeting on Tuesday evening, September 27, 2011, the School Board welcomed the Colonial Heights High School Class of 1961, the first graduating class at the school, and recognized its 50th year anniversary. A special Resolution was presented to the class of 1961, noting many distinctive facts and honors pertaining to the class, and the services that they have provided.

This particular class selected the Colonial as the school mascot, selected the school colors of red and blue, and wrote the Colonial Heights High School Alma Mater and class song (to the tune of Elvis Presley's "Love Me Tender"). The Class of 1961 sang the Alma Mater at the School Board meeting.

The School Board also recognized the 2011 September Senior of the Month, Abigail Meredith Ponder. Then Mr. Bryan Wareham, the high school's Culinary Arts instructor, was recognized for receiving the ProStart Teacher of the Year Award for the state of Virginia at the 2011 VHA/ProStart invitational at Mary Washington University earlier this year in March. Mrs. Ruth Wareham, the high school's drama and speech teacher, was also recognized for being award the Thespian Educator of the Year for the state of Virginia by the Virginia Thespians. She was presented the award at this year's Virginia Thespian Conference at Radford University, which took place in February.
