School Board Appoints Mrs. Kristin Janssen as New High School Principal

08/09/2010 - At its July 27th, 2010 meeting, the Colonial Heights School Board
approved Mrs. Kristin Janssen as the new Principal at Colonial Heights
High School. For the past four years, Mrs. Janssen, has been the
assistant principal of Colonial Heights High School in Colonial Heights,
Virginia. She also served as the high school's Career and Technical
Education administrator for two of those years. Prior to that, she was
the gifted coordinator for the high school and was an English teacher at
Colonial Heights High School for ten years.
She earned her B.A. degree in English and Secondary Education at
Longwood University, her M.Ed. in Reading from Virginia Commonwealth
University, and additional endorsements in Administration and
Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University and Gifted Education
from Hampton University. During her teaching tenure, she was awarded
both the high school and the city's Teacher of the Year" award. In
addition, she was selected as the Colonial Heights Jaycees "Outstanding
Young Educator award."
Mrs. Janssen has had many outstanding role models and influences in
her life. Most notably is Mr. E. Lloyd Pugh, a former Colonial Heights
Public School administrator and assistant superintendent. Mr. Pugh
served as Mrs. Janssen's Longwood University supervisor when she was
completing both her practicum and student teaching experiences at
Colonial Heights High School. "Mr. Pugh is a true educational leader. He
inspired me to begin my career at Colonial Heights High School and I
have loved it so much that I have remained here in a variety of
capacities for the past sixteen years. Colonial Heights Public Schools
is an extraordinary school division and community. I feel blessed to be
given the opportunity
to build on the accomplishments of my predecessors and I look forward to serving the
entire Colonial Heights High School community well into the future."
