Lakeview 5th Graders Win 1st Place in Nation in FBI-SOS Internet Safety Challenge!
11/22/2010
11/22/2010 - Officials from the FBI presented the Lakeview 5th graders with a first
place award for achieving the highest score in the nation, in the
FBI-SOS Internet Challenge! This was a big surprise to the 5th grade
students, who came down to the school's cafeteria, along with the 3rd
and 4th grade students, wondering what was going on, and why they were
being called to visit with the FBI.
Mrs. Gayle Miller, the Lakeview Library Media Specialist, who
coordinated the Internet safety instructional activities for Lakeview,
explained to the students that the kids were not in trouble, but that
they'd won first place in the nation!
Mrs. Valerie Wiggins, the school's principal, accepted the 1st place trophy for Lakeview.
The officials from the FBI were joined by representatives, Curtis Monk
and Cindy Charlton-Matejka, from the Community Idea Stations
(WCVE), who have helped with promoting the FBI-SOS Internet Challenge.
Mrs. Wiggins and Mrs. Miller are presented with a gift for Lakeview from the FBI.
Lakeview Elementary School's 5th graders learned Internet safety skills
on the way to winning the national FBI-SOS Internet Challenge. Colonial
Heights Public Schools has an Internet safety curriculum, and many
outstanding resources such as those from the FBI are available for
Internet safety instruction.
