Colonial Heights City Public Schools Achieves District Accreditation under AdvancED
10/11/2010
10/11/2010 - Our school division met all standards for District Accreditation
through the AdvancED Accreditation Commission, which "unanimously and
without reservation," awarded this accreditation after an intensive
review process. AdvanceED is a national school accrediting body that
includes the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on
Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). An external team of
independent reviewers visited our schools during the 2009-2010 school
year, and interviewed representatives from all stakeholder groups
including parents, students, teachers, staff, and administrators. They
observed classroom instruction, and evaluated all parts of our education
system.
This accreditation process is a period of self-evaluation and
reflection. Prior to the AdvanceED team's visit, our schools came
together to work in teams to engage in a system-wide evaluation of seven
standards identified by the accrediting body.
Colonial Heights Public Schools were commended on having successful
practices deserving of recognition in all seven standards, including
Vision and Purpose, Governance and Leadership, Teaching and Learning,
Documenting and Using Results, Resource and Support Systems, Stakeholder
Communications and Relationships, and Commitment to Continuous
Improvement. The review team also identified recommendations for
improvement. These recommendations will guide the work of the school
division over a period of five years.
